Ionosphere and Space Weather
The ionosphere is the ionised part of the upper atmosphere, between about 80 and 1000 km altitude. The ionisation in this region is produced primarilly by extreme UV and X-rays coming from the sun, and is of major importance for various radio-based technologies (for example radio communications and satellite based navigation).
The research team "Ionosphere and Space Weather" studies all aspects of the ionosphere, including its reaction to various external drivers and its impact on various technologies. More information can be found on the space weather team website.
